Application unveiled for 4,500-home urban extension to Corby

Words: Huw Morris

An outline application has been submitted for a 4,500-home urban extension near Corby.

The 290-hectare area to the west of the town is a key strategic site for growth up to 2031 in the North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy.

This brings together East Northamptonshire, Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough under a plan to deliver the 40,000 homes and 31,100 jobs needed by the growing population up to 2031. Corby is expected to double its population in that time.

The plan, called West Corby, also includes shops, schools, new employment uses, open space and new infrastructure.

The Great Oakley and Rockingham Estates are promoting the 15-year scheme with house builders Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey.
