Plans for a £45 million state-of-the-art Southern Regional College (SRC) campus at Craigavon Lakes have been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

The proposals have been in the pipeline for almost 10 years, however, they have been dogged by controversy.

A local action group has voiced considerable opposition to the scheme, citing issues to do with impact on wildlife and concern about congestion.

SRC has already secured planning permission for two new campuses in Armagh and Banbridge, both to be built on existing sites.

The Craigavon development, sited next to the recently approved £30 million Craigavon Leisure Centre, is close to both the Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre and Rushmere Shopping Centre, and would replace the Lurgan and Portadown campuses with a single new campus.
