Application for oil well in South Downs National Park

A planning application has been submitted to the South Downs National Park Authority for an oil discovery site.

UK Oil & Gas Investments submitted the application which, if approved, allows for more drilling and a production test of a new well from an existing borehole.

The company owns a licence for the site near Rowlands Castle, known as Markwells Wood-1.

If the well is commercially viable, a second phase of the development envisages up to three other wells.

“In order to minimise impact to the locality, feedback from a public consultation and engagement process, undertaken in July, was incorporated into the envisaged development design and planning application,” according to a company statement on the London Stock Exchange. “The normal local planning authority cycle takes approximately 16 weeks.”
