An Bord Pleanála performance makes strides

An Bord Pleanála has made significant progress and improvements in its performance according to its latest annual report which covers 2013.

The statistics in the report showed that some 72 per cent of normal planning appeals were handled within 18 weeks, up from 36 per cent in 2012. 
Figures now available for the first six months of 2014 show further improvement, with this figure increasing to 80 per cent.
The average number of weeks required to deal with normal planning appeals was down from 23 to 19 by the end of 2013 and stands at 16 weeks currently.
Taking all case types dealt with by An Bord Pleanála into account, including strategic infrastructure, more than 62 per cent of cases were determined within the relevant statutory periods in 2013.
This percentage rose to 71 at the end of second quarter 2014, a significant increase on compliance rates in previous years.
