Affordable housing numbers on the rise - stats

New government figures reveal a 12 per cent increase in the number of affordable houses in England from 2016/17 to 2017/18.

In total, 47,355 affordable units were delivered, according to a statistical release from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Nearly all of them were new build (90 per cent).

Of the total number, 26,838 were new homes for affordable rent, representing 57 per cent of all new affordable homes. 

Almost half – 47 per cent – were funded through section 106 agreements. In 2014/15, 22 per cent of affordable homes delivered were funded s.106 agreements.

There were 53,572 affordable home starts on site in England in last year, an 11 per cent increase when compared to 2016/17.
