Aberdeenshire-based housing developer Kirkwood Homes Ltd has submitted a proposal of application notice to the Highland Council for a residential-led mixed-use development in Inverness, consisting of about 800 new homes.

About 25 per cent of the homes would be affordable. Also proposed is a site for a new two-stream primary school and commercial/business uses, and an upgrade of the existing nine-hole Fairways golf course in the Highlands capital.

The proposals have been the subject of online consultation and have a price tag of about £200 million.

Residents are unhappy about the project and have raise concerns over the risk of flooding, loss of green space and traffic problems.
