A developer has submitted outline proposals for a new development of up to 1,950 new homes on farmland on the northern flank of Swansea.

A planning statement from consultancy Geraint Jones Planning for Llanmoor Development Co Ltd pointed out that the scheme, for a 115-hectare site west of Llangyfelach Road, was in line with the emerging local development plan.

Of the 1,950 homes, 1,160 of the dwellings would be developed during the plan period up to 2025.

The project also involves a link road, a local centre, the provision of a primary school, community facilities, public open space and extensive landscaping (including sustainable drainage systems), outdoor sports provision and improvements to the existing highway network as well as footpaths and cycleways.

The consultancy said: “The application site represents a deliverable scheme which would make an important and significant contribution to meeting the planning authority’s pressing housing need in a sustainable manner.”
