The UN's Sustainable Development Goals that underpin Habitat III hold the potential to transform planning in the wealthy gobal North, as well as the poorer South. But is the UK open to change? Elisabeth Jeffries reports.
Britain’s planners have sustainability sorted. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) integrates it into the planning system as a “golden thread,” and it gains plaudits as a first-class vehicle for sustainable development. Rules introducing low-carbon energy have long ago been passed, and the nation has pioneered innovative schemes like Marine Conservation Zones.
