How are our cities failing us?

A century ago, we had teeming slums, open sewers and filthy air. Modern cities have their own issues. This year's young planners' conference asks: 'How are our cities failing us?'
Why do we planners do what we do? For many of us, it’s to create healthier, happier communities.
Yet, after 70 years of statutory planning, we find many of our towns and cities clogged with cars and fogged with pollution, and with homes unaffordable for all but the few. They can be stressful places, poor for both our mental and physical health.
