Appeal: Underground extension still inappropriate in green belt

A plan to convert a former reservoir pump house into a home in the Buckinghamshire green belt has been blocked after an inspector ruled that it would unacceptably enlarge the building, even though most of the extension would be underground and not directly visible.

The appeal property is a pump-house that formerly served a reservoir near Stoke Poles, north of Slough. The proposal sought to convert the building into a home, which would involve extending it by two metres to add a small porch, and also extending it into a void beneath the building to form a basement. The appellant argued that the underground portion of the extension should not be........
