Appeal: Travelling showpeople’s site approved for West Yorkshire green belt

Permission has been granted for a travelling showpeople’s site including residential caravans and storage on the edge of the village of Fitzwilliam, Pontefract, after an inspector judged that very special circumstances had been demonstrated to allow for development in the green belt.

Inspector KA Ellison noted that there was no dispute that the scheme represented inappropriate development, finding that though the site would at times be largely vacant, it would still give the impression of extending the existing village beyond its present boundary.
