Appeal: Stonehaven housing need ‘not proven’


A reporter has ruled that a proposal for 250 homes, retail land and land for a primary school in Stonehaven is ‘unnecessary’ in light of the scheme’s conflict with the local development plan.

The Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Plan includes Stonehaven within a strategic growth area, but with new housing allocations focused on the new settlement of Chapelton of Elsick, and four other sites retained with the capacity for 390 houses. The appeal site is not allocated for development, but lies in the countryside immediately outside the boundary of the town.
