Appeal: Anti-vandalism and rough sleeping shopping centre shutters approved

Shutters designed to prevent access to a Carlisle shopping centre outside of business hours have been granted retrospective permission, in light of a recent increase in antisocial behaviour and rough sleeping in the area.

The appeal relates to The Lanes, an arcade-style shopping centre in Carlisle city centre. The complex is divided into quarters by a covered thoroughfare, with one public access point on each of its four sides.

The appellant sought retrospective permission for the installation of shutters at each of the four entrances, used to close the centre to the public outside of normal business hours.....Sign Up or Login to read full article
