Appeal: Rule 6 party fails to block 85-home Essex scheme

An inspector has granted outline permission for 85 homes near Saffron Walden, Essex, despite opposition from the local council and a Rule 6 party, ruling that the local development plan was ‘clearly out of date’.

The proposal sought permission 85 homes, of which 40 per cent would be designated affordable, on a parcel of land considered open countryside for planning purposes. The scheme would include 1.97ha of green infrastructure, including a nature park, play area and landscaped footpath.The appeal was decided at an inquiry, where local pressure group Residents Against Unsustainable Development (RAUD)........
