Appeal: Refusal of 375 homes near Cranleigh precedes Javid’s called-in decision

An inspector has blocked a large mixed-use scheme near Cranleigh in Surrey after calling the area 'unsuitable for major residential development', weeks before Sajid Javid is due to decide on a proposed 1,800-home scheme nearby.

The proposal was submitted in a single application, but would be built in phases. Part one of the scheme would see an expansion of Care Ashore, a charity that provides permanent and holiday accommodation for former maritime workers in need, to provide 60 apartments and 20 bungalows for independent living.Part two, for which full permission was sought, would see the construction of 125 homes, as........
