Appeal: Poor road visibility sees industrial units refused at AONB

A commissioner has refused permission for the retention of two, and erection of three light industrial units for a site within the Mournes Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in Hilltown, Northern Ireland, after judging that visibility at the proposed access to the site would be ‘unacceptably substandard’.

Commissioner Helen Fitzsimons argued that as the entrance to the appeal site is not visible at a bend in the road from when approaching from the east, and given the tendency for drivers to speed up on this section of the road, this could give rise to drivers having to break heavily as vehicles, particularly HGVs, leave the site.
