Appeal: Permission refused for new-build block after previous conversion collapsed

Plans for a new-build apartment block in Herne Bay to replace a building that partially collapsed during a previous conversion have been refused for posing a threat to the character of the area.

The original building on the appeal site received planning permission in 2007, permitting a conversion of the ground floor to a restaurant, and an extension to create nine flats. But during the conversion works the building partially collapsed and was subsequently demolished for safety reasons.
