Appeal: Northwich housing could harm protected species

An inspector has upheld Cheshire West and Chester Council’s decision to refuse the development of 27 houses in Lostock Gralam, Northwich, after finding that the scheme failed tests related to the protection of European Protected Species (ESP).

In his decision letter, inspector Gareth Wildgoose described the appeal site as 1.15 hectares of land located to the rear of an existing ribbon of dwellings on the south side of Manchester Road, an area that currently includes dense vegetation, a pond, mature and semi-mature trees, caravans and sheds.
