Appeal: Noise restrictions would harm business

Permission has been refused for 72 dwellings in Chard, Somerset, after an inspector concluded that the noise restrictions necessary to make the development acceptable would unduly harm an adjacent manufacturing business.

Inspector Ian Radcliffe noted that while South Somerset District Council cannot demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, the appeal site is identified within the local plan as suitable for a variety of uses, and that residential development of the site was suitable in principle.That said, the sites location next to a cleaning equipment manufacturer proved problematic.
