Appeal: Lorry park extension ‘not inappropriate in green belt’

An inspector has granted permission for the expansion of an M25 service station in Surrey to provide an extra 79 lorry parking spaces, ruling that the scheme would not be inappropriate green belt development.

The appeal relates to Cobham services, a motorway service station between junctions 9 and 10 of the M25. The site is largely surrounded by fields, with the exception of the M25 road itself, and lies within the Metropolitan Green Belt.The site currently has parking space for up to 72 heavy goods vehicle (HGV) lorries, but as many as 167 HGVs have been recorded at the services in the past.
