Appeal: London hotel refused because of ‘cramped’ rooms and inaccessibility

Permission has been refused for the change of use of a pub to a 35-room hotel in the London Borough of Newham, after the inspector found several deficiencies with the scheme’s design.

Inspector RC Kirkby said that while the appeal site may be outside of the council’s ‘Arc of Opportunity’ – that being the intended focus area for major development opportunities in the borough – there was nothing in the council’s core strategy or the London Plan to indicate that visitor accommodation outside of this defined area would not be permitted.
