Appeal: Listed pub told to remove ‘overly dominant’ garden cover

A timber and slate structure added to the garden of a grade II listed pub in Southampton to insulate it from bad weather must be removed after an inspector refused retrospective permission on the grounds that it harmed the character of the building.

The proposal relates to the Ship Inn, a grade II listed pub in the Redbridge area of Southampton. Previously, a large parasol had been used to cover the pub's back garden area and provide protection against bad weather.
