Appeal: Kirkby Thore wind turbine judged as preferable energy scheme


Communities secretary Sajid Javid has approved the development of a single “medium scale” turbine for Kirkby Thore, Cumbria, after finding that the development would have a preferable impact on the landscape than another approved scheme.

Javid judged that the turbine would have a “negligible effect” on the overall character of the intermediate landscape and cause only minor localised harm. He agreed that it would have a “less cluttered appearance” on the low ridge above Low Abbey Farm than if two smaller turbines, for which there is extant planning permission, were to be implemented.
