Appeal: Javid overrules inspector to block housing scheme despite local shortfall

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has stepped in to block a 27-home scheme south of Macclesfield despite a housing supply shortage in the area, overruling an inspector's recommendation that it should go ahead.

The proposal, for 27 homes in Marton, south of Macclesfield, was called in by Javid's office on 31st March 2016. Inspector Karen Baker, who had assessed the appeal initially, found that the scheme's benefits outweighed potential harm, and recommended that it should be allowed. Javid's formal decision overruled this recommendation and blocked the scheme.
