Appeal: Javid blocks wind farm despite ‘extensive and weighty’ benefits


Sajid Javid has upheld an inspector’s decision to refuse permission for 11 wind turbines in Cornwall, ruling that ‘less than substantial’ harm to nearby heritage assets outweighed the extensive environmental benefits of the scheme.

The proposal, originally submitted in 2014, sought temporary permission for a cluster of 11 wind turbines on farmland near Holsworthy, Devon, for 25 years. After initially being turned down by Cornwall Council, it was referred to inspector Paul Griffiths, who held a public inquiry in April 2016.
