Appeal: Javid backs approval for 300 homes in Crewe

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has backed an inspector’s decision to grant Gladman Developments permission for 300 homes in Wistaston, Crewe, after judging that the extent to which the scheme would erode a defined green gap should not preclude development.

Javid noted that given Cheshire East Council’s inability to demonstrate a five-year supply of housing land, its relevant policies for housing should be considered out of date. But unlike the inspector, in light of the recent Richborough Estates judgment, which gives a wider meaning to “relevant policies for the supply of housing” to include policies that influence supply........
