Appeal: Javid approves controversial fracking plans for Lancashire

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has backed an inspector’s decision to grant permission to Cuadrilla Bowland Limited for shale gas fracking exploration and monitoring operations at its Preston New Road site in Little Plumpton, Lancashire, but withheld permission for exploration works at its Roseacre Wood site.

The plans were originally recommended for approval by planning officers, but were refused by Lancashire County Council in June 2015 on noise and visual impact grounds.Javid gave consideration to the written ministerial statement (WMS) of September 2015 and its recognition of the “national need to explore and develop shale gas and oil resources in a safe, and sustainable and timely way........
