Appeal: Hockey club development deemed appropriate for green belt


Permission has been granted for the development of an all-weather pitch plus a new clubhouse in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, after an inspector found that the outdoor sport and recreation opportunities offered by the proposal outweighed any perceived harm to the green belt.

The appellant, Amersham and Chalfont Hockey Club (ACHC) argued that its current pitch was now “largely unsuitable for most levels of hockey” adding that the cost of replacing the pitch could not be justified as the club does not have security of tenure of the site, which forms part of a proposed redevelopment of the area largely for housing.Inspector Anthony Lyman noted that the development met........
