Appeal: Dudley pub will make way for convenience store after High Court ruling

Following a High Court ruling quashing a previous decision, an inspector has approved plans to replace a pub in Dudley with a convenience store despite local opposition, after deciding it would not threaten the vitality of other nearby businesses.

The plan sought to demolish the Maypole Inn, located beyond Dudley town centre, and replace it with a convenience store. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council blocked the proposal primarily on the grounds that it would harm the viability of existing nearby businesses, and threaten road safety owing to a lack of parking provision.
