Appeal: Digital advertising screen would harm listed building

A proposal for a small digital advertising screen on the side of a listed building in Birmingham has been blocked, after an inspector said it would ‘obstruct the traditional architectural form” of the building.

The building, currently in use as a bar, is on Broad Street in Birmingham, an area well known for its nightlife where street advertising is a prominent feature. The building sits near the intersection of the historic Gas Street canal basin and is grade II listed. The proposal involves replacing an existing painted wall sign on the side of the building with a digital advertising screen of 1.8m x........
