Appeal: DCLG refuses retirement homes for Thame police station site

The Department for Communities and Local Government has refused planning permission for the demolition of Thame police station and erection of 45 sheltered apartments for the elderly, after finding that the development would fail to preserve or enhance the Thame Conservation Area.

Inspector Kay Sheffield took issue with the proposed design of the development, stating that it took reference from “prominent buildings in the high street rather than from the more immediate environs of the site” and would not make a “positive contribution to local character and distinctiveness”.She found that the scale and design of part of the scheme would help “divert attention” away from........
