Appeal: Clark rules Worcestershire solar farm inappropriate for green belt

Communities secretary Greg Clark has supported an inspector’s decision to reject a proposal for a 8.94 megawatt solar farm in Upton Warren, Worcestershire, as the scheme’s contribution to renewable energy targets were not enough to outweigh its harm to the West Midlands Green Belt.

Inspector Vicki Hirst argued in her report that the appeal site’s position within the green belt would directly harm its openness. Clark agreed, also deciding that a network of public footpaths that cross the site would be dominated by the presence of the development, which would significantly impair walkers’ enjoyment.
