Appeal: Clark overturns wind farm approval owing to heritage impacts

Communities secretary Greg Clark has overturned an inspector’s decision to grant permission for four wind turbines in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, after ruling the impact of the scheme on a Grade II listed church to be unacceptable.
Clark largely agreed with inspector Graham Dudley’s assessment that the historic settings of a number of local heritage assets would be preserved. He further agreed that the significance of the Church of St Michael in Cotham would amount to a “less than substantial” level of harm, but that there would be some impact on the way the asset is appreciated from public footpaths.
