Appeal: Clark overturns gypsy site approval despite ‘pressing need’

Communities secretary Greg Clark has overturned an inspector’s decision to grant permission for an 18-pitch gypsy and traveller site within the Metropolitan Green Belt, on the edge of Datchet village in Berkshire, despite acknowledging a ‘pressing need’ for such sites in the borough.

Clark agreed with inspector Diane Lewis’s assessment that Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council is unable to demonstrate a five-year supply of gypsy and traveller sites, and that relevant policies relating to the supply are out of date.
