Appeal: Brownfield contention sees West Calder homes refused


A reporter has refused permission for four homes on land previously associated with a poultry rearing business in West Calder, after finding that the scheme could not take advantage of the brownfield status of the this part of the site.

Reporter John Martin noted that the six poultry sheds on site, disused since 1996, were now in an “unsightly” state of disrepair. Unlike the local review body, Martin viewed that the sheds could clearly be seen from the site entrance and that the larger “untidy” site was visually intrusive in the landscape.
