Appeal: Biomass plant approved for Halkirk, Scotland


The construction of a wood-fuel Biomass combined heat and power plant has been approved for the village of Halkirk in Caithness, after a reporter found that the plant represented a suitable form of industrial development in the location.

Reporter John Martin noted that Highland Council’s main objection with the proposal was its adverse impact on the landscape in relation to its "height, scale and massing".

The scheme is designed to use 100 per cent locally sourced biomass fuel, mainly lower quality materials from sustainably grown forestry areas in northern Scotland, and would result in the production of 15 mega-watts o.....Sign Up or Login to read full article
