Appeal: Abattoir decision reversed after High Court ruling


An enforcement notice has been quashed and planning permission allowed for an abattoir wash water storage tank in Ranks Green near Fairstead, after an inspector’s initial refusal of the scheme was quashed by the High Court.

'Wash water' contains "blood, animal faeces and small particles of flesh", and in this case is spread on adjacent farming land as a fertiliser.An enforcement notice, issued in May 2014 by Essex County Council, called for the operations of the storage tank to cease after alleging that the structure had been erected without planning permission.
