Appeal: 550 Gloucestershire homes would compromise emerging core strategy

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has backed an inspector’s decision to refuse permission for a 550-home scheme in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire, after concluding that the proposal would prejudice the development of a strategic allocation within which the appeal site lies.

Although the appeal site sits outside the settlement boundary defined within the Tewkesbury Local Plan to 2011, Javid said the policies for housing within this plan can only be afforded limited weight as they are time-expired and out of date, and the council is unable to demonstrate a five-year supply of deliverable housing land.
