Appeal: ‘Urgent requirement’ justifies student halls on Scottish island

Plans for 60 rooms of purpose-built student accommodation have been approved on the Isle of Lewis, off the west coast of Scotland, despite the site's proximity to an industrial estate.

The appeal site concerned a small quadrant of land on the southeastern edge of Stornoway town centre. With a population of around 8,000, Stornoway is the largest town in the Outer Hebrides, a chain of islands off the west coast of Scotland.
