Appeal: ‘Unique, classically designed’ Croydon pub to be replaced with flats

An inspector has approved plans to demolish a ‘striking’ pub in South London and replace it with seven apartments and two houses, ruling that the scheme would ‘add interest to the street scene’.

The Stag and Hounds Public House – now closed – occupies a “prominent street corner position” near South Croydon railway station. The “unique, classically designed” building stands at three storeys, with flat-roofed extensions to two sides and a small car park behind.
