Appeal: ‘Underground’ house would harm landscape

An ‘underground’ home has been refused for a site in rural Wiltshire because of the scheme’s inaccessibility to local services and visual impact on the landscape.

Inspector Andy Harwood accepted that the home had been designed to look “organic” and as if it had “grown out of” the rugged, unused sloped piece of land that comprises the appeal site. He also noted the long-term ambition that the house would be as “off grid” as possible and would be made form ethically sourced materials.
