Appeal: ‘Offensive odours’ put a block on facility for recycling absorbent hygiene products

A plan to convert an industrial warehouse building into a recycling facility for nappies and other hygiene products has been refused after the appellant failed to demonstrate that odour emissions would not exceed tolerable levels.

The warehouse, currently under construction, sits next to the Grand Union Canal in Hayes, which separates it from a primary school and allotment on the opposite bank. The proposed facility would convert absorbent hygiene products, currently disposed of as landfill or incinerated, into plastic pellets and fibre material. This would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the London........
