Appeal: ‘Crime prevention’ does not justify 24-hour service station licence

Proposals to permit a service station to open 24 hours a day to stop crime have been dismissed after an inspector found no evidence of crime at the site

The application, for a BP service station in Calcot, Reading, had sought planning permission for a small extension to the premises, which was not opposed in principle by the local council. Instead, the appeal concerned the non-compliance with a condition of permission granted for a previous application in 2015, which restricted opening hours to between 5am and 11.30pm.Referring to &rdquo........
