Appeal: ‘Battle of Bannockburn’ quarry scheme refused

A reporter has refused permission for quarry works at Murrayshall Quarry in Cambusbarron, despite rejecting the historic significance of the adjacent Gillies Hill and its role in the Battle of Bannockburn as an impediment to the scheme.

Reporter Richard Dent noted that Murrayshall Quarry has been in existence for many years, but that mineral extraction appears to have ceased in 1996. Patersons Quarries Ltd had appealed against Stirling Council after it failed to determine its application for reinstatement of quarry operations, part of which relates to operations on land outside of current planning permission.
